Abstract :The ceramic pigments are colored inorganic substances that during the process of dispersion in the ceramic glazes and subsequent calcination, are stable against physical and chemical attack. Therefore, they are crystalline compounds applied in the ceramic industry for coloring vitreous base. In this study, the Pechini method was used for obtaining the pigment CuCr2O4 with heat treatment at the tempera-tures of 800, 900 and 1000 ° C. The powder pigments were characterized on their structural, morphological and color-imetric aspects. The thermal analysis conducted on an amorphous precursor in a TG / DTA indicates the weight loss in the entire temperature range investigated, with characteristic exothermic peak of the elimination of the organic composition of the precursor around 300°C. The development of the crystalline phases were investigated by XRD, using a diffractometer with Cu Ka radiation and graph-ite monochromator, where it was observed the presence of crystalline phases corresponding to Cr2O3 and CuCr2O4.The measurements of the specific surface area of the powders pigments were carried out in an equipment Micromeritcs, model ASAP 2000, using N2 as gas of adsorp-tion/desorption. The colorimetric measurements of the pigments were made in a colorimeter Gretac Macbeth Color-eye spectrophotometer 2180 / 2180UV in CIELAB standards. Based on the obtained results, it can be verified the thermal stability of the powder pigments of green coloration, which enables it as an alternative to the materi-als currently used in the manufacture of ceramic tiles. |

Author : C. E. A. Valadão; A. L. C. Araújo |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : The balneability conditions were investigated through samples collected in seven monitoring points along the Natal-RN coast during the period of 2004-2009. Temporal evolution of balneability conditions and annual percentage of proper bathing conditions were analyzed according to the Brazilian standards established by the CONAMA 274/00 resolution. Results showed that all but the Via Costeira/Mãe Luiza beach presented good environmental quality. The beaches of Barreira d’Água and Cacimba do Boi, both located at Via Costeira, presented the best environmental quality, showing each year proper bathing conditions over 98% and 92%, respectively. In contrast, Mãe Luiza beach repeatedly presented extremely high MPN of faecal coliforms, which means it presented a poor balneability condition for most of the period under analysis. Precipitation may be considered one the factors influencing balneability conditions, however we could not establish a clear relationship between the accumulated amount of weekly precipitation and the MPN of faecal coliforms for the sampling points considered. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Although the open literature presents advances in methods for folates determination, these publications usually covers fortified foods. Up to date, most of the published HPLC methods for soluble B-vitamins determination use buffer solutions and surfactants as mobile phase, making the quantification procedure laborious and expensive. Thus, in the present work, a simple method based on Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), followed by separation by high performance liquid chromatography was developed and validated in order to quantify the levels of folate naturally present in the cashew apple juice. The separation was achieved using water and a small amount of acetonitrile in gradient flow as solvent elution system. The developed method presented the necessary requirements for its application as a laboratory protocol to quantify folates in cashew apple juice: good linearity, precision and accuracy. The cashew apple juice samples analyzed in this study presented folate contents ranging from 0.74 to 1.32 mg/L, making cashew apple juice a good folate source. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : This article aimed to optimize the process of osmotic dehydration of stem central of sliced pineapple pearl from process variables: temperature, osmotic solution concentration and proportion fruit-osmotic solution. Osmotic dehydration (O.D) of sliced pineapple stem in sucrose solutions was performed in an oven with air circulation and studied by experimental design 23 factorial with 4 replications at the center point, totaling 12 experiments. The three independent variables for the process were: temperature (T) and osmotic solution concentration (C) and proportion fruit-osmotic solution (F:SO). We carried out the adjustment of the mathematical model to the experimental data using linear regression and evaluation of this by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and test Fischer (F) for the regression fit and lack of correlation coefficient (R2). The model was considered predictive, reasonably adjusted and their residues with respect to the experimental points, if so approximately normal distributed. From these confirmations, the model was considered valid and process optimization the region studied occurred in: T = 50 ° C, C = 40 g.100g-1 and F:S = 3:20 |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Based in the importance of epistemology in conducting researches in every area of study and its knowing by the researchers, this research described what were the epistemological approaches more present in dissertations of a Management Post-Graduation Program in the Brazilian northeast in the period of 2005 to 2007. Through the construction of a collection data instrument, based in the focus proposed by Ivone (2005) and enriched by the Demo’s (1981) epistemological focus, was done a content analysis in 49 dissertations produced in the period studied, specifically of problematic, characterizing, therefore, the research as a documental qualitative research. Was detected that the epistemological approach more present in dissertations is the positivist approach, present in empirical-positivist hypothetical-deductive and empirical-positivist approaches, concluding, hence, that the necessity of empirical verification is very present in the analyzed researches, showing the strong positivist influence in the analyzed Post-Graduation Program. Thus, is possible to perceive that is wide the difficulty to expel a necessity of a cause and effect empirical evidence. |

Author : C. A. F. Silva; G. Malafaia; B. G. A. Veiga; A. L. A. Castro |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :This study aimed to portray the real social and environmental condition of the population from Sales-SP. The survey, conducted through a household survey (with application of the questionnaire) and direct observation of the researchers, evaluated the exposure of individuals to environmental insults and adverse health effects "physics" and "social" these aggressions. In addition, we sought to identify the perceptions of residents about these aggressions and opinions related to environmental issues. The results expose conditions of vulnerability experienced by families who suffer from job insecurity and unhealthy conditions of their dwellings. In addition, situations become apparent indifference of the public and identifies little community participation in identifying local environmental problems and preserving the environment. We conclude that there is a need that interventions related to improving the quality of life of people living in this neighborhood are performed, with emphasis on basic sanitation and environmental education. In a more general instance, this study raises discussions about the importance of checking and indicators that provide an assessment of environmental quality in urban areas, using these as a foundation for the planning of cities and essential to improve the quality of life in cities. |
